No. It's not a new cartoon character which shoots out water
Neither it is a way of fertilization such as IVF for hard to conceive parents.

Basically, Water Baby is used for plant decoration. Instead of the plain water tank with crystal clear water, some inventors make use of the Osmosis theory and created this decoration for plants so that potted plants can too mislead people that it is a fish tank!

Or I say, Plant having a disco party. :)

Our class started this Water baby saga(thanks to Judith) and like all curious children, we are amazed by the super cute bouncy jelly like round substance. More and more people are keeping a bottle of it. haha. Just for the fun of it.

<< Originally, these water babies are as small as red beans. Probably just the size of a normal fullstop.( Those that sinked at the bottom of the bottle)

Simply just add these circular objects into a bottle of tap water and leave it overnight.

And pooooof!

You get a pretty pleasant surprise how fast they grow. Approximately 100 times of it actual size.

Hmm.. The topic of Diffusion and Osmosis was taught in both chemistry and biology and this is the time that I put into good use.

A 'evil' idea struck me

PUT THEM IN SALT SOLUTION!

Science for Idiots. If you have at least heard and understood the concept of Osmosis, you may skip the explanation part. heh!

Explanation: When the water potential of a cell is more than the surrounding, water leaves the cell by osmosis causing the cell to shrink in size.

<< there must be a scientific explanation why the water babies float when put inside a salt solution. Could it be the change in density?

Now, I would have to wait for the next morning to see for any changes...

AS EXPECTED.

This whole idea works on osmosis and the water baby shrunk to a quarter of its maximum size.

I was looking forward if it could go back to the original size of a full stop but after approximately 12 hours. It still remain like this.

This is a reverse test to see if it could grow back to the maximum size again if I put into the normal water again but sadly, the answer is no.

and there, lies in the bottle, your lifeless corpse/carcass.

Don't you find it beautiful to see the spectrum of colours. My camera may not bring out the woo- haa of this effect but if you have nothing better to do (like me), try to breed some water baby, bounce them around and even serve as a bullets and throw around to disturb your friends. :)

This experiment shows how real the reliability can be. in some unfavorable condition, it will immediately react to it. And somehow, i feel that I am quite similar to the water babies.

Also, when something has happened, it is hard to have a reversible change and this may etched into the water baby's mind. Even a simple experiment is non reversible, what do you think if something happen in our life? Our complicated life...
